last year’s christmas dinner was a little different. my family has never followed the classic “church, food, presents” tradition. in recent years, we’ve kept it low-key without big traditions — spending the holidays up north, visiting my grandparents for a day, and keeping things quiet. but 2024 brought some unexpected shifts. due to ongoing health issues, both my dad and grandfather had to let go of routines they once loved — spontaneous travel, dining out, and the joy of discovering new places through food. so i decided to take over the wheel.i brought some of my favorite dishes and produce to the table, creating an intimate dinner rooted in care, curiosity, and shared memory. cooking for them became a way of showing love, of reconnecting through flavor, and of making space for something new in a familiar setting. it was a way to share my passion for food and aesthetics with the ones i love most.
